If you were going to place a GMRS repeater in the Bluffton area… where would you put it?

I got a “deal” on a 10w GMRS repeater. It may just be something i experiment with, or take on the road for camping & off-roading, but if you were gonna pit it up in Bluffton somewhere, where would you put it? Knowing that antenna height is more important than 10w vs 25w (and i can wish all I want for 25w, but its a 10w machine), having a site where i can get the antenna up high is a bonus. I’m probably not gonna spring for a high-end antenna and hardline cable…

Hi Dan, I also have a complete GMRS Repeater in storage that I brought down from New England 6 years ago to maybe find a site that could accommodate it. The problem being cost of a commercial grade antenna , cable and installation. I have a few site leads that I can work with, Hopefully the window of opportunity may come around soon.. I'll keep ya posted.

Well, my GMRS repeater is up and running. If you happen to be hear Bluffton, you can experiment with it - Repeater pair 17, 462.600/467.600, no PL. This is absolutely in test mode right now - and the antenna isn't that high. And there is no ID on the repeater as I need to buy an extra board for it. So... if you're talking to anyone on it, please make sure to ID yourself... I'll get an ID module for it if it stays up... But for now, would be curious to know if you can hit it. :)

Hi Dan, Thanks! I will give it a try, Tho not sure if you are aware there is a pretty strong GMRS Repeater in Savannah on that frequency pair. They operate with a PL but It might cause issues with mobile or base stations trying to reach yours on the input frequency. Would it be possible to choose a different pair?

Just another heads up , Tyler KW4WTF out on the island just turned on today a test GMRS Repeater in the Hilton Head Plantation area..
He's utilized the 462.625 Pair with a PL tone of 136.5.
