Enabled MQTT?

I wanted to try to show up on some maps and realized (I think) that I needed to enable MQTT. Doing so, I now see that my device can see 80+ devices. Wondering if this means those are all the radios that my radio sees? Or whether it's the radio count that my radio and my radio's first hop and all the radios those devices see? In other words, am I really seeing all these devices? And could theoretically send a note to each?

Hi Dan, Yes You are looking at internet nodes.. MQTT is a gateway option. There are several MQTT settings that effect posting your nodes on a meshmap but the main option you want to turn off is the MQTT download under the primary channel tab..Be glad to help with set up if I can. The do a Reset NodedB under the Device tab

And Yes you could send messages through the internet which sorta defeats the purpose of “Off the grid” Comms so I have just enabled the Uplink so that my information can be posted by me or by someone if I don’t have an internet connection who can inject it..Here is some random settings that I use for my home setup with a Heltec 3 . Because the Solar node isn’t capable of connecting to WiFi there has to be a 2nd device that is connected to the internet within hearing distance 24/7 if you want map posting .My Heltec 3 is connected to my home WiFi so the Solar beacons are relayed via the Heltec3 until such times that we have enough nodes that hear the solar node to reliable pass
Its information..
There is a lot to learn and to some degree it has become an obsession to understand how it all works.. I’m enjoying the challenge and open for more suggestions and opinions!!

What I really like about MQTT is we could setup a local channel. That way you can keep in touch until the mesh is wide enough to stand on its own.
That’s is a good idea Tyler , and turn on the mqtt for that channel. A good experiment but for me anyways my main goal is to see what these devices can do on RF first before Opening the gates to the internet.. Not fully understanding the process what is RF and what is the internet could lead many to confusion , plus we have plenty of social media platforms like this to discuss. I I’m for keeping it simple.. and at such time expand if need be..
